Family Fun in Kansas City

This past weekend, the basketball team was playing in the NAIA national championship tournament in Kansas City, Missouri.  Since Dave's work got him a hotel room, we decided to make it a little family vacation.  I'm so glad we did!  In addition to cheering on the team, we had lots of family fun. 

We got in town Friday evening.  It was only a 4 hour drive and the kids did awesome!  After unpacking, we headed over to the convention center to watch some basketball.  Then we went back to the hotel and just ordered a pizza for dinner.  We didn't want to push our luck with the little ones.

 

On Saturday morning, we got up early and headed downtown to Fran's for breakfast on the patio.  What a lovely morning it was!  I had never been to downtown Kansas City, but instantly fell in love.  The downtown area is all so new and clean...and there are so many fun family things to do in the city.  After getting some ideas from the waitress, we headed to the Crown Center.  Brooks (and Mommy) LOVED the Crayola store.  It's every 2 year old's (and his teacher Mommy's) dream come true.  They had lots of interactive areas for the kids to play and draw and color.  They also had every kind of crayon, marker, chalk, paint, and coloring book that you could ever possibly imagine. 

Next we headed downstairs to the Tails and Trails Exhibit.  Brooks absolutely loves animals so this was right up his alley.  He had a blast running around and climbing and jumping on all of the animals.  After such a busy morning, Brooks crashed in the car.  To make sure he got a good nap, Dave and I decided to drive around and do some exploring of our own.  It was a beautiful day so we grabbed some lunch and drove around looking at big, beautiful homes that we will never be able to afford!!!  After a while, Brooks woke up and we headed back to the hotel to get ready for the game. 

It was a quick trip, but we had a great time!  Dave is on Spring Break all week, so I look forward to seeing what our next adventure will be this week.  We are hoping to find some fun indoor activities, as it is supposed to rain much of the week.
