Since Dave and I got married, we usually have traveled on Christmas Eve or Christmas. And until now, it's been fine. But this year we've decided it would be our last year to travel for Christmas. The kids are getting a little older and starting to understand the holiday more. And it's really important to us that we go to the Christmas Eve service at our church, and that the kids wake up at our house on Christmas morning. We have several traditions that we want to do with our own little family, and that's hard to do when we are packing and traveling.
However, this year, we already had our tickets to go to Arizona for Christmas. So we decided to go ahead and celebrate the way we want to, but just to do it a few days early.
It started on "Christmas Eve" with making pizzas together. We made the dough and then added on our ingredients. The kids loved it!!! Then we made some yummy Christmas cookies. I read the story of Christmas from their little Bible. And then we let them each open one present. Brooks was THRILLED to get the two transformer toys that he has been wanting for about a year, Heatwave and Chase. Sissy loved her little talking, walking panda baby. When it was bedtime, we let the kids have a sibling sleepover on Brooks' bunk beds.
Early the next morning they woke us up. Well, they woke me up. I, in turn, spent about 5 minutes poking and prodding Dave to get out of bed. Once we had our coffee, the kids got to start opening their presents. Daddy made caramel rolls for everyone for breakfast, and we all ate together. Then Gammy and Paw Paw brought down more presents for everyone. We are so blessed!
The kids spent most of the day playing with their new toys, while Dave and I got ready to host a Christmas dinner for Gammy, Paw Paw, Steven, Courtney, Claire, and Emma.
It was a very Merry Christmas indeed.
