With Dave's new job, and the plans for the company to move to Texas, we started looking for a new home. We rented the house on Baton Rouge for 5 wonderful years, and made so many memories. But we were ready to find something to call our own. We looked at several areas, but knew we wanted to move North a little bit, to Celina or Prosper. After looking at several houses, Dave convinced me to look at new builds in Celina. I had been very hesitant for many reasons, but at the end of January, we took a leap and put signed a contract to build our new home. Honestly, the whole thing was a wonderful experience We loved taking the kids out to see the progress each week. We loved that we got to write our names and favorite Bible verses on the wooden beams of our home. We loved thinking about how we wanted to decorate our new home, and where we would put our furniture. The kids talked a lot about how they wanted to paint their rooms. It was a lot of fun, and the long wait until July just added to the excitement.
Shortly after signing the papers, we decided to find a church home in town. We quickly found one that we loved and jumped right in.
February brought another Daddy Daughter Dance and Presley's 7th birthday. Presley wanted to have Addi and Rae come to town and go to a hotel for the night, so that's what we did. We swam in the indoor pool, played bean boozled, and watched movies.
Both kids played winter basketball. Grandma and Grandpa loved coming to see one of their games.
Dave and I went to a hotel in Irving for our anniversary, and out to a wonderful dinner. We sure do love our babies, but it is always so nice when we have time to ourselves, to nurture our marriage.
Uncle Jesse's new baby, Seti, was born February 28th. The kids both loved meeting and holding their sweet new cousin.
In April, Brooks turned 9 years old. Of course, I always have to play a good April Fool's joke on him. This year, we switched the kids after they went to sleep, so that Brooks woke up in Presley's bed and Presley woke up in Brooks' bed. I tried to trick them with a fake spider in the bathroom and a shark in the toilet, but they weren't overly amused. We gave Brooks girl legos instead of the set he had been asking for. Then, I told Brooks that we had to take Dad to the airport on his birthday, and he was pretty bummed. But he sure was surprised when we pulled up to The Ballpark in Arlington and took him to a Rangers/Astros game.
One of my student's dad was a State Representative, and they offered to give us a tour of the state capital in Austin. We drove down one morning and spent the day with them at the capital. That evening, we had dinner and dessert with The Barber Family, then swam at the hotel. The next morning we took the kids to a really cool children's museum called The Thinkery, before heading home. On the way home, we stopped at Uncle Steven's house for dinner and an Easter egg hunt with cousins.
In June, our family flew to Denver with Brock and Kendra and the kids. We then drove to Hart Ranch in South Dakota for the Lewis Family Reunion. We had a blast visiting the Wooly Mammoth Museum, Bear Country, and Mount Rushmore. We made lots of memories at Hart Ranch with so many cousins. We also drove up to Lead, where Dave loved showing the kids where he grew up, and the house he lived in. We went trout fishing at the same place Dave used to go as a child. The kids loved fishing, but were much less impressed with the cleaning and cooking and eating of the trout.
