What an incredibly busy week we have had. We stayed in Arizona until yesterday (Friday afternoon) and were sad to leave everyone after our week of rest and relaxation. We made some wonderful memories and spent some really special times together with Dave’s family and extended family members that came over on Christmas Day.
As soon as we flew in, we unpacked, and then packed again to head to Louisiana. My grandmother (dad’s mom) is very sick and is not expected to make it much longer. The doctors are only giving her a few days. So me and Dave, my brothers Greg and Jesse, and Jesse’ fiancé Tiffany, all left early this morning to come see her. We got in town around 3:30 and spent some time at the hospital before getting a hotel. My Uncle Tim, Aunt Debbie, and their two precious baby girls are here too.
So we decided that since Dave has never had “proper” cajun food, we needed to expose him to the real thing. So we all headed to Prejeans’….a heckuva a restaurant in Lafayette. Well we ended up having the best time. As sad as the circumstances are, it gave us all a great opportunity to spend some family time together. There was live music, lots of dancing, and great food and drinks. My South Dakotan hubby made me so proud! He ate frog legs and alligator…and loved it!!! It was a great experience for all of us….but Dave really enjoyed seeing a little of that Louisiana girl in me. And I loved sharing that part of me with him. (He was also pretty amused with the drive thru daiquiri shop that we drove through on the way back to the hotel)
Well that’s enough for now. We will go back at the hospital for a while in the morning before heading back to Dallas. We are both REALLY looking forward to home sweet home.
